About Us

Given the breadth of important research questions within and across each pillar of health research that are needed  to reduce the burden of osteaoarthris - a multi-factorial disease, the Alberta Osteaoarthritis (OA) Team made a strategic decision to implement a 4-pillar project plan with an integrated approach to discover better diagnostics and therapeutics while creating common platforms that will elucidate and prioritize the various mechanisms of this disease and ultimately define the relative risks of disease progression in individuals. The best analogy we can suggest is to envision an evidence-based approach to OA that will result from biologically, clinically and psychologically sound risk-prevention strategies and tools that are even more robust and better adopted by end-uses than those in other chronic disease (e.g. hypertension or diabetes).

The OA Team has therefore recruited four oustanding multidisclinary project teams that have identified priorities and subprojects based on what we have identified as key gaps and opportunities within OA research.
